Germany's Stefan Bradl claimed his second win of the season in the Moto2 class in Estoril this weekend. In a hard fought battle against Spain's Julian Simon, the Viessmann Kiefer Racing rider jostled with his opponents in an exciting bar-t0-bar race which eventually saw Bradl come out on top.
Early in the race, Bradl was out front followed closely by Mapfre Aspar Suter rider Julian Simon. Thomas Luthi had gotten ahead of Bradl after a few laps, but a lowside crash on the 4th lap put the Interwetten rider out of the race. With 19 laps remaining, Scott Redding (Marc VDS) and reigning 125cc Marc Marquez (Team Catalunya Caixa Repsol) got tangled up after Marquez lost control of his motorcycle and brought Redding with him into the gravel. Both riders re-entered the race and finished 25th and 21st respectively.
Speed Master's Andrea Iannone was the man on the move, working his way up the field after starting on the 5th row. Iannone and Mapfre Aspar's Julian Simon swapped positions with nine laps to go. With five laps remaining, Iannone had overtaken Simon and was all over Bradl in a fight for first. The Italian rider overtook Bradl with four laps remaining, only crashing shortly thereafter. This left the door open for Simon to regain second place. Meanwhile, Japan's Yuki Takahashi rode his Gresini Racing Moriwaki to an emotional third place finish, following the tragic death of his brother last week.
