Triumph Street Triple 675
The British love to use the word “brilliant,” and they usually say it with some exclamation. Well, the whole world’s moto-media used the word, and did so with a big exclamation, when the Street Triple came out. Based on the awesome Daytona 675-but fitted with a tubular-style handlebar and stripped of its fairing - the Street Triple was a revelation on the road. It is light in weight, handles great and is very comfortable. The engine is slightly re-tuned to deliver more bottom-end power, but it still revs to a vigorous 13,000 rpm. Factor in the $7999 MSRR and there was no better choice in 2008.

CONTENDERS: There now is a Street Triple R that brings fully adjustable suspension and radial-mount front brake I calipers lifted from last year’s Daytona. Then there is Kawasaki’s ER6n naked, the Suzuki Gladius, the previously mentioned Ducati Monster 1100 and Street-fighter, Harley-Davidson’s XR1200, a trio of Aprilias and once again, the Star VMax. This may be the best category to shop in for 2009!
