Bailey perfect again in Amateur action

SHANNONVILLE, ON -- Aubrey Bailey enjoyed another perfect day in Amateur National action at Shannonville Motorsport Park on Sunday, winning both the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike class and the K&N Performance Filters Amateur Superbike division for the second day in a row.

As on Saturday, the Parry Sound, ON racer led all the way from pole position in the Sport Bike race on his H.T. Motorsports / ProStar / Velocity Sportsgear Honda CBR600RR, finishing 5.362 secs. ahead of the Tracksport Technologies / Kahuna Powersports Kawasaki ZX-6R of Kristopher Garvie with Jody Greening placing third on the BFE / ProStar / Sturgess Cycle Honda CBR600RR.

Bailey enjoyed a similar margin of victory in the Superbike event, winning by 5.667 secs. while Greening held off Garvie for the runner-up spot.

"We weren't even thinking of coming here until last week," admitted Bailey, who did not take part in the opening national round at Circuit ICAR on May 29. "But we had a fantastic weekend, just a huge weekend.

"The strategy was the same as yesterday. I wanted to get into the lead off the start and put in a few fast laps. It worked out in the Sport Bike race but in Superbike I didn't get the start I wanted and I had to make my way around a few guys.

"The bike was great. It was a little bit hotter than yesterday but it didn't affect me too much. Of course, the conditions are the same for everyone."

Greening held second for the first part of the Sport Bike race but was chased down by Garvie, who pulled clear in the runner-up spot. Greening meanwhile, had to contend with the Sherbrooke Harley-Davidson Suzuki GSX-R600 of Samuel Proulx, edging the Magog, QC racer for the final spot on the podium. Amzy Nawaz of Thornton, ON was fifth for the second straight day on his Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Greening and Garvie were again at it behind Bailey in the Amateur Superbike race with Greening prevailing this time. Alain Lefebvre of Rouyn-Noranda, QC was a distant fourth on a Suzuki GSX-R600 and Nawaz placed fifth again.

As on Saturday, Superbike polesitter Trevor Daley was a non-finisher on his Trevor Dailey Concepts Ducati 749.

Garvie now leads the Amateur Sport Bike standings with 129 points to the 113 of Proulx and Greening on 109. In Superbike, it's Greening on top with 119 followed by Bailey with 107 and Lefebvre on 105.

Bailey's rivals in the Amateur ranks will probably be breathing a sigh of relief that the young charger is not planning on travelling to the next round of the series at Autodrome St-Eustache this weekend, or the following races at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Nova Scotia. He indicated on Sunday night that he will stick with the SOAR and RACE regional events, leaving his perfect 2011 national record intact for now.
